ISB is privileged to be an exam centre where practical and theory exams are offered twice a year.ABRSM, a London-based organisation that is over l00 years old, understands this well. Each year it sends highly experienced examiners worldwide to examine over 600,000 students, so providing the international benchmarks for the measurement of musical achievement. The exams are structured to stimulate and develop all aspects of performance (style, musicality, interpretation, rhythm, technique and intonation) and aural training. The syllabi are carefully planned at each level, so the child has a definite goal, can measure their own personal progress and gain a sense of achievement upon completion of each year level. Pease see your private teacher for more information.
As a new addition to The After School Music Program, The School of Rock was created to provide students with an opportunity to form a Rock Band and to learn the basics of playing in an ensemble. While all instruments are welcome, the groups will primarily function around a section of drums, bass, guitar(s), keyboard/piano and voice. There is no requisite level to join nor do students need to know how to read music. The idea is for students to learn about the basic rhythm, melody, chords and harmony in cover pop/rock songs of their choice. Students might also want to compose their own song, write lyrics to a new melody, or play a solo. Other styles of popular music may also be studied. Performance venues will be determined on the merit of each group.
